Dr. Barmar grew up in Aachen, Germany where he went to high school and medical school at RWTH Aachen. He graduated with honors with an MD degree and pursued his post-graduate training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center from 2002 to 2008.

He worked then as a nephrologist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV from 08/2008 to 12/2020 serving the heroes of this nation.

In 02/2012, he decided to start his practice in Martinsburg to be able to serve the people of the Eastern Panhandle as well as the Shenandoah Valley. Due to a great need, he opened his satellite offices in Winchester and Leesburg. He continues to provide teaching to WVU East medical students as well as Harpers Ferry Family Practice residents.

Dr. Barmar is married and lives with his 3 children in Leesburg. He spends his free time with his family and friends but is always available for his patients on his personal cell phone.
