Biography
Babak Barmar, MD, is a board-certified nephrologist. He earned his medical degree from RWTH Aachen in Germany; completed his residency in internal medicine at UPMC Shadyside Hospital; and specialized further by achieving fellowships in geriatric medicine and nephrology at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital and UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
At Kidney Specialists PLLC, Dr. Barmar treats a wide range of kidney conditions, with a strong focus on chronic kidney disease and home dialysis. His clinical interests also include the management of acute kidney injuries and glomerulonephritis. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Barmar serves as a clinical assistant professor at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, where he teaches medical students, residents, and advanced practice provider students.
His research involvement has included studying sleep quality in dialysis patients, and he has been recognized with the Best Preceptor and Teacher Award. Since 2010, he has also served as a volunteer nephrologist at the Loudoun Free Clinic.
